The Bedfordshire Blue Raiders are pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Ramsay as the next Head Coach of the team.

Coach Ramsay has been a big part of the Blue Raiders for the last 2 seasons as Defensive Coordinator. Following a 2009 campaign which saw an 8-2 regular season record thanks largely to a defensive unit that ranked 6th in Division 2 in terms of points against, Coach Ramsay will step up to the Head Coaches role for the 2010 campaign and beyond.

Coach Ramsay was a founder member of the East Coast Leopards in 1985 and a Britbowl winner in 1990 as a player with the Ipswich Cardinals. He had an impressive and successful coaching history with the Norwich Devils before moving on to be Head Coach at the Exiles in 2007 and then onto the Blue Raiders as Defensive Coordinator in 2008.

Coach Ramsay said “I'm very excited about the forthcoming season and leading the Blue Raiders to what we plan to be a very successful 2010 campaign, our aim will be to recruit more players and additional coaches in our push to win Britbowl 2010 and get into Division 1 for 2011. I know I have big shoes to fill taking over from Coach Wallis but I believe with the right work ethic that is something this team can do.”

Tony Law, General Manager added “Following the success of the 2009 campaign we felt it was crucial to maintain that momentum going into next year, so Coach Ramsay was the natural choice for Head Coach, but, after speaking at length with Coach Ramsay about the past season, next season and his vision for the future, it was clear that not only was he the natural choice, but, much more than that, he was the best choice! Coach Ramsay brings a rare calibre of coaching to the team, which will not only allow us to maintain our standing and momentum, but, enable us to take that next step as we prepare to make another playoff run in 2010. We are very excited about where the Blue Raiders are headed”

Coach Ramsay is now in the process of assembling his supporting cast before the Blue Raiders return for rookie sessions planned in November and training camp early in the new year.

The Bedfordshire Blue Raiders are in action this weekend at Bedford International Athletics Stadium as they square off against the Cambridgeshire Cats in a friendly game in aid of the NSPCC. The day will feature a host of family entertainment from face painting to live DJs. Gates open at 10:00 and kickoff is 12:30.
